Casework Specifications

All casework to be factory shipped fully assembled. Counter tops for base cabinets are shipped separately for mounting at the job site.

All exposed edges of cabinets to be self edged in matching 1mm PVC edge-band, including all edges of doors and drawer fronts. Cabinet Base to have recessed toe space.

Standards

Basis of requirement shall be SSI Casework, as manufactured by S&S Craftsmen, Inc., 1307 2nd Ave., Tampa, Florida 33605.

 

2. General Conditions

All provisions of the General Conditions of the complete set of specifications shall be considered part of this section.

 

3. Work Included

This section of the specifications shall include all materials, hardware and labor for fabrication of factory built melamine, plastic laminate, or wood veneer casework.

 

4. Work Not Included

All plumbing, electrical, HVAC and fixtures related to specified casework to be provided by others.Unless required by the details and specifications regarding casework, the manufacturer shall not:

 

A.

Prepare for any electrical, telephone, mechanical or plumbing equipment;
B. Furnish common wall blocking for the support of wall mounted casework;
C. Supply any vinyl or other base finish material;
D. Furnish dust panels;

5. Drawings And Samples

Shop drawings to be provided by factory upon receipt of order for architectural approval prior to fabrication. Architect and contractor to review shop drawings for conformance with design intent. Changes, modifications, and alternates to be approved during shop drawing review.

 

6. Construction

Details shall conform to the flush overlay cabinet construction design as indicated in the SSI Casework catalog.

 

7. Materials

A.

Finishes
  • All exposed exterior surfaces of cabinets including exterior surfaces of drawer fronts and doors to be wear resistant melamine, 1/32″ vertical grade high pressure laminate or wood veneer. All unexposed exterior surfaces to be faced with a balancing sheet. Cabinet interiors and inside faces of doors and drawer fronts to be surfaced with wear resistant white or black melamine surfacing or white or black cabinet liner balancing sheet, as required. All counter tops to be laminated with 1/16″ horizontal surface grade high pressure laminate and to be self edged. Cabinet backs to be surfaced with wear resistant white or black melamine.
B. Particle Board
  • All particleboard to be 3/4″ thick, 45 lbs. per cubic foot density. All shelves exceeding 32″ spans without intermediate supports are to be made of minimum 1″ thick particle board.

8. Hardware

A.

Hinges
  • Flush overlay; heavy duty, all metal, concealed type, fully adjustable, self closing.
  • Three hinges per door over 36″ high, two per door under 36″ high.

B.

Drawer and Door Pulls
  • Brushed aluminum wire pull, (US 28 Finish), 5/16″ diameter, 3 1/2″ c.c., 3 13/16″ overall.
  • Pulls to be through-bolted from backside.

C.

Drawer Slides – Blum Metabox integrated drawer system
  • White Epoxy Coated, self closing with Silent Glide rollers for smooth quiet ride. Integrated drawer slide and side panel. Built-in stop keeps drawer front from impacting face of cabinet. 3-D adjustment feature allows adjustment of drawer front in three directions. Double stop feature prevents the drawer from falling out while being extended and allows the drawer to be locked in the open position. 100 lb. load rating.

D.

Hardware for Adjustable Shelves
  • Line bored holes at 32mm vertical spacing with metal pin supports.

E.

Hanger Rods
  • 1″ diameter, nickel plated, steel tubing.

9. Casework Component Specifications

 

A. Cabinet Top
  • 3/4″ wear resistant melamine finished particleboard in white or black meeting NEMA standards.
  • Exposed top surfaces of units up to 84″ high to have same finish as adjacent exposed surfaces.
B. Cabinet Bottom
  • 3/4″ wear resistant melamine finished particleboard in white or black meeting NEMA standards.
C. Cabinet Ends
  • 3/4″ wear resistant melamine finished particleboard in white or black meeting NEMA standards. Exposed end surfaces of units to have same finish as adjacent exposed surfaces.
D. Cabinet Back
  • 1/2″ wear resistant melamine finished particleboard in white or black meeting NEMA standards.
  • When finished backs are specified, exterior surfaces to have same finish as adjacent exposed surfaces.

E.

Cabinet Shelves
  • 3/4″ wear resistant melamine finished particleboard in white or black meeting NEMA standards.
  • Shelves exceeding 32” long shall be minimum 1” thick stock.

F.

Exposed Cabinet Interiors
Where casework is shown as open, without doors, the exposed interior surfaces of the case shall be considered an exposed surface and all exposed surfaces will be finished same as adjacent exterior surfaces.
G. Cabinet Bases
  • 3/4″ plywood, 4” high with 2” recessed toe space from front edge of case.
  • Visible exterior sides to be left unfinished for base finish material by others.
  • 1” Recess at exposed ends.
  • Bases to be shipped separately in maximum of 8 foot assembled sections.
H. Cabinet Edges
  • All exposed panel stock edges to be self edged with matching PVC edgeband.
  • All front edges of case body and door edges to be edged with matching 1mm PVC edgeband as indicated on the drawing.
I. Cabinets Doors
  • Doors to be 3/4″ thick particleboard.
  • Exterior surfaces of doors to be wear resistant melamine, 1/32” high pressure laminate, or wood veneer.
  • Interior surface to be laminated with wear resistant melamine or white or black cabinet liner balancing sheet.
  • Edges to be self edged with matching 1mm PVC edgeband.
  • Edges to be edgebanded last.
J. Drawer Body
  • Drawer bottoms and back to be ¾” wear resistant melamine.
  • Drawer sides are part of the Blum Metabox integrated drawer system.
K. Drawer Front
  • Fronts to be 3/4″ thick particle board.
  • Exterior surface of front to be melamine, laminated with 1/32” high pressure plastic laminate or wood veneer.
  • Interior surface to be laminated with wear resistant melamine or white or black cabinet liner balancing sheet.
  • Edges to be self edged with matching 1mm PVC edgeband.
L. Counter Tops
  • All counter tops for base cabinets to be 1 1/2″ thick.
  • Top surface to be laminated with 1/16″ thick horizontal grade high pressure plastic laminate.
  • Underside of top to be laminated with a balancing sheet.
  • Back splashes and end splashes to be 4” high (sent loose), laminated with 1/16” high pressure plastic laminate on exposed surfaces and laminated with a balancing sheet on concealed surfaces.
  • All tops to be edged with high pressure plastic laminate.
  • Sink cut-outs provided when specified.
